Just re-reading this at the moment and I have to say it’s a fascinating read. Very well written and it also explains a lot about what has happened to Greece in the past 60 years since the war ended.

    Highly recommended.

I agree it’s a great book. Read it a few years back and had to leave it behind with a lot of other stuff when I left. Wah!

If you like your history in story form – you may prefer Gregory Grigoriadis’  ‘Still the Cicadas Sing’ – see http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/178462165X?keywords=still+the+cicadas+sing&qid=1442851116&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1  .
Written by someone who experienced the German occupation of Athens as a child, it is compelling reading – one of the best I’ve read for a long time – as he tells the coming of age story of Alkinoos, a teenager growing up and surviving the horrors of life in Athens during WWII.
